Driver Profile: Dusty and His 1985 Toyota Supra

The most notable thing about the car is the modified headlights. It is one of the few Supras with popup quad headlights. The car is now equipped with four projectors, two high beam and two low beam, and all four projectors have GTR Lighting HID headlight kits installed. The headlight buckets were also modified so that they only lift enough to show the projectors.

What is the year/make/model of your car?
1985 Toyota Supra

What is something really notable about it? Horsepower, rare or special modification, something nobody else has done to theirs?

Why did you build your car the way you did?
I have owned my ’85 Supra for quite some time now. I mostly built the car for handling and cornering. I wanted a car that was fun to drive on a daily basis and not just a track car. I have fun driving the car the way it is and I think it looks amazing.

Are you done with it? If not, what's next?
I feel like the car is mostly done. I was just thinking earlier this year about the same exact question. Honestly, the car has everything done to it to make it fun to drive. The only thing that would make this car better would be a turbo. Which who knows, maybe it will happen sometime in the future, but for now, I feel like it is done.

What's your favorite thing about the type of car you have?
My favorite thing about this car is the body style mixed with the drivetrain. My first car was a Dodge Daytona and the ‘85 Supra has the same body style as the Daytona, but it’s rear wheel drive. So now I have my favorite body style mixed with the fun of rear wheel drive. What more could I ask for?

What's your favorite thing to DO with your car?
The best thing to do with my car is “Spirited Driving.” The act of driving the car around deep winding turns at high speeds. It is a blast to drive fast around corners due to the extremely tight suspension I have installed into it. The car holds the road very well!

If you HAD to start over with the same car and do it all again, what would you do differently?
The first thing I would do is throw the turbo in the car. Honestly, it’s the one thing I wish I would have done from the beginning instead of spending the money on all the suspension upgrades.
Not that I’m complaining or anything. The car is very solid with the upgraded suspension work, but a turbo is still a turbo, it would be so much faster. Otherwise, I’m happy with the way the car has turned out and I have no regrets.
